Bring On bluessmyth - June 3/2005
Nathen Anderson - Airdrie City View

If you like a strong beat and a band with the guts to take the bass
for a walk, you don't want to miss Calgary band bluessmyth's
upcoming performance in Airdrie.

The boys take the stage from 9 pm to 2 am on June 3-4
at the Old Hotel. Audiences can expect hours of good
ol'-fashioned bluesy rock from Chris and Jason Yaholkoski
and Calvin Becker.

Chris, the three-piece band's lead vocalist, came to the guitar
at age eight, and the blues harmonica at age 11. Jason, meanwhile,
picked up the bass at age 11. The brothers grew up in Winnipeg,
two provinces away from future ban- mate Calvin, who started
beating the drums at age 12 in Calgary.

Becker and the brothers met for the first time at a jam session
during the summer of 2000, and have been part of the Calgary
music scene ever since.

The band put out its first CD "30 Pieces Of Silver" just eight
months ago, and has been touring non-stop ever since,
earning the title of hardest-working band in rock' n' blues.

"It's been going great. We've been playing non-stop, three or
four shows a week, for the past eight months. People have
been really receptive. We're already starting to plan another
album," said Chris.
"We have a saying: we'll play anywhere once."
The live bluessmyth show is something of a mixed bag.
Besides the band's nine songs on 30 Pieces Of Silver, written
by Chris, they kick out a rack of cover tunes, including everything
from the White Stripes to Kris Kristopherson.

"We do what we do," says Jason. "We believe there's nothing
wrong with doing an all-out heavy blues-rock jam, and then
singing a song like Amazing Grace. Our fans love the sincerity
with which we play all types of music."
"The band has always played in the spirit in which it was founded.
We try not to look past the beauty of the music,"says Calvin.
